READ EXODUS 33

GO DEEPER

This chapter serves as a reminder that in the Old Testament, God was not distant from his people. His nature did not change when Jesus came to Earth; He has always been a relational God who desires to have a close relationship with His children. The chapter delves into the bond between God and Moses, who have journeyed together through slavery, freedom, and wandering in the desert. Throughout their experiences, God has consistently been by Moses' side, leading to a profound relationship where God spoke to Moses as a friend.

From this passage, we can glean insights into how Moses perceived God. It is clear that Moses believed his people needed God's presence desperately, expressing his commitment by stating that he would not go anywhere without God. Moses displayed remarkable boldness with God, even daring to request to see God's glory. This boldness stemmed from years of witnessing God's faithfulness, leading Moses to trust him wholeheartedly.

Moses approached God authentically, bringing his true self without needing to change or improve to communicate with God. Their genuine relationship resulted in significant changes for their people. While we now interpret this episode differently as followers of Jesus with the Holy Spirit within us, the message remains relevant. We have the privilege to engage in constant communication and connection with God throughout our daily lives. Yet, we often overlook this opportunity. Consider how your day could be transformed if you chose to converse with God regularly.
