READ EXODUS 39

GO DEEPER

Our recent reading has largely focused on instructions and specifics, but Exodus 39 finally completes the task! Initially, Exodus 39 discusses the attire worn by the priests, but by the conclusion of this chapter, we witness the completeness of the tabernacle. Not only is it finished, but the text also informs us of something else: it was carried out exactly as instructed by the Lord (verses 32 & 42).

The chapter teaches us a couple of important lessons. Firstly, it is crucial for us to obey the commands of the Lord without letting pride interfere. Often, we assume we know better and seek ways to bypass or find loopholes. God has provided us with scripture and the Holy Spirit to guide us. Consider this! According to James 1:22, it is not sufficient to merely hear the word - we must also follow it. The preceding 39 chapters of Exodus have made clear the importance of staying true to God's instructions without veering off course. Finally, as the construction of the tabernacle reaches its completion, the Israelites succeed in following God's instructions accurately.

This chapter's second principle is that excellence honors God. The tabernacle was not hastily put together using makeshift materials but rather meticulously crafted. When we put in effort and strive for excellence while having sincere intentions, it brings glory to God. Proverbs 22:29 mentions that those who are proficient in their work will be esteemed by important figures. By demonstrating excellence and faithfully utilizing the talents and skills bestowed upon us by God, He rewards us with greater responsibilities. This recurring theme is evident throughout the scriptures, with the Israelites serving as another example of this principle.
