READ DEUTERONOMY 18

GO DEEPER

The Levites are a group of individuals chosen by God to serve as ministers in Israel. In Numbers 18:6-7, it is stated that they have been designated by God to serve in the tent of meeting as a gift to the Lord. They are instructed not to focus on making money or seeking personal wealth, as God is the one who provides for them. They are dedicated to serving God, taking care of His temple, managing offerings, and performing sacrifices. It's amazing that God has made laws and provisions for His people's welfare. Each individual is considered and provided for in God's plan for His people.

Verses 9-14 may appear to caution against obvious truths, but even today, both within and outside the church, individuals engage in or exhibit similar attitudes and behaviors. Being superstitious and seeking answers apart from God is a common practice. While such behaviors often pique people's curiosity, God cautions against them. The warning stems not from God's selfishness but from His knowledge that these practices are wicked, hollow, and deceitful. Engaging in such practices dishonors God, distorting our perception of Him and His intended purpose for us. These actions are contrary to God's nature and are not aligned with His plans. He calls us to a higher standard, as His judgment surpasses our own and our understanding of what is acceptable (Isaiah 55:8-9).

In the midst of various laws, the final verses of this chapter reveal the promise of Jesus. Acts 3:19-26 and 7:37 make it clear that the prophet referenced here is Jesus, who will serve as an intermediary between them and God and who will be one of their own. While they may be searching for guidance in practices that only bring false promises and ruin, God ensures they are not left without a solution to find true guidance. Jesus is the solution, the ultimate fulfillment we seek; nothing in this world can compare to the completeness we find in knowing Jesus as our Lord and Savior!
