READ JOSHUA 22

GO DEEPER

The land that was pledged to the Israelites has been secured and confirmed. The promise has finally come to fruition. Every tribe persevered until they had obtained every last piece of land. No one lagged behind to selfishly enjoy their portion of the inheritance while the other tribes fought for theirs. It was a complete task, with loyalty shown until the end. It was a display of family unity fighting for their common goal and supporting each other.

Every tribe now possessed their land and resources. Farewell speeches and blessings were exchanged. The two and a half tribes residing on the eastern side of the Jordan River were allowed to return home and settle in their allotted inheritance from God. However, before departing, Joshua offered his final praise and guidance:

Adore and love the Lord your God.

Walk and live in accordance with His will.

Follow His commands and instructions.

Stay close and near to Him.

Devote yourself to Him wholeheartedly and with all your being.

Conflicts within our families quickly escalate into conflicts with our family members, just as they often do in families.

Misunderstandings are inevitable. Family relationships and expectations can be intricate and puzzling. However, by studying the unusual names and perplexing rituals described in the Holy Scriptures, we can gain insight and wisdom to navigate through our relational conflicts.

Similar to Phinehas and the western tribes' leaders, we can balance being prepared to bravely stand against wrongdoing and being open to listening for comprehension. We must possess the courage to confront problems while upholding a constructive outlook towards others. Like the leaders of the western tribes, we, as followers, strive to reconcile with our fellow believers instead of hastily drawing conclusions, isolating ourselves, or giving up on them.

This is the message of the Bible. Even when we were living in sin, Jesus entered our world with a heart that abhors sin but loves people. He sacrificed Himself in our place, enabling us to become known as children and companions of God and to be included in His everlasting family. He showed us how to bring about reconciliation among people. Let us now apply His teachings in our lives.
