READ RUTH 2
GO DEEPER
In the readings for today, we can observe the Lord's supreme authority already at work in Ruth and Naomi's lives. The Lord has transformed their initial despair and bitterness, as depicted in Ruth 1, into abundance and optimism. God's supreme control guides every experience we endure (Proverbs 16:33). His authority and wisdom are evident as He guides Ruth not only to the fields of Naomi's kin but also towards a possible Redeemer for them. Isn't that remarkable and considerate?
Boaz allows Ruth to gather additional barley, ensures her safety, and supplies her with water and food until she is fully satisfied with some leftover (verse 14). This mirrors how the Lord treats us, meeting our needs and exceeding our expectations to leave us content with more than enough. The Lord can be relied on not just to provide, but to do so generously. His provision is unique, revealed in intricate and thoughtful ways that prompt us to recognize His hand in our lives and say, "only God could have done this."
This chapter emphasizes Boaz's wealth. Instead of claiming the entire harvest due to him, Boaz allowed Ruth to glean leftover grains and instructed his workers to provide her with more. Boaz, favored by the Lord with a productive field, ample laborers, and abundant produce, demonstrates generosity by sharing his blessings. By allowing himself to be a vessel for God, the source of his blessings, to help those in need, Boaz exemplifies a willingness to give back. Often, we tend to hoard the gifts, resources, and finances bestowed upon us by the Lord for our own benefit. In contrast, Boaz showcases a mindset where he recognizes the responsibility of stewarding his blessings for the Lord's purposes. Through his interactions with Ruth and his staff, Boaz shows a profound understanding of the significance of his blessings from the Lord. May we also strive to embody such generosity and humility.
Let us offer thanks to God for His control over all things, His plentiful blessings in our lives, and for the abilities He has given us to help others. May we recognize His all-sufficiency and the manner in which He supports us each day. May we also be attentive to the individuals whom the Lord has purposefully brought into our lives, so that we may share our resources with them and be a blessing to them.
