READ LEVITICUS 9
Leviticus 9 is among the few narrative sections in the book, detailing Aaron and his sons' first day as priests. While many of us have experienced first-day jitters at a new job, Aaron and his sons' experience is unique. They are stepping into a role that has never been filled by humans before, for a unique community founded on God's laws and promises to Abraham. Their responsibility is to ensure the people are in a right relationship with God, follow the covenant, and make atonement when needed.
The chapter begins with sacrifices, despite Aaron and his sons previously merely sitting in the tabernacle with God. Their consecration in Leviticus 8 did not make them perfect, as they still needed to atone for their sins, requiring offerings of two animals.
Through the process of priesthood, God shows that priests and the system will always fall short in addressing Israel's sins. The need for a Messiah to atone for the people becomes evident, as highlighted in Hebrews.
Aaron and his sons atone for their sins and lead the people in a similar process, with the people obediently following the instructions. God shows acceptance by sending fire from heaven to consume the sacrifices, signifying His presence. The people respond with worship and reverence. Just as Aaron and his sons brought the people into God's favor, we are also called to be priests, leading others to God's blessing. Stay in God's presence and share His kingdom's blessings with those around you, inviting them to experience fellowship with the Living God.
