READ GENESIS 41
Throughout a single day, Joseph transitioned from being a prisoner to becoming the second highest authority in all of Egypt, from sleeping in a jail cell to sleeping in the grand palace, and from wearing prison garb to donning luxurious robes. To an outsider, it might appear as if Joseph achieved rapid success overnight. One could read about his journey and aspire to have a life like his.
However, we understand the reality. Joseph's ascent to power was not swift, easy, or direct; instead, it was a long, arduous, and meandering path. Along the way, he encountered numerous trials, including being betrayed by his brothers, sold into slavery, falsely accused and imprisoned, and ultimately forgotten by those he had helped. It took 13 years of facing challenges, setbacks, and adversity before reaching his moment of triumph.
Nevertheless, Joseph was not alone on this journey. While people may have abandoned, rejected, or neglected him, God was consistently by his side, guiding him through each obstacle. Joseph acknowledges this divine intervention, attributing his success to God. From being a proud and arrogant young man at the beginning of his story, Joseph has transformed into a humble and capable leader, molded by his experiences over the years.
Often, we are tempted to seek shortcuts or the easy path to success. Yet, when faced with such temptations, we should consider Joseph's narrative. It was through his struggles that his character was built, his faith strengthened in times of solitude, and his pride humbled through rejection. By enduring these challenges, he was ultimately prepared for his role as second in command. So, as we navigate our own trials, difficulties, and hardships, we should not shy away from the pain. Instead, we should allow God to shape us during these challenging times so that we may emerge stronger and better equipped for whatever lies ahead.
