READ EXODUS 3
This passage from the Bible is considered one of the most important ones. While Moses was tending his flock one day, he had a divine encounter with God in the form of a burning bush, where he received clear instructions on what God wanted him to do. Just imagine, on an ordinary day, God appeared to Moses and directly instructed him on his next steps.
Many of us often struggle to discern God's will and wish for a clear sign like Moses had with the burning bush. We all desire our moment of divine revelation to understand what God is calling us to do. Occasionally, God makes His will explicit to us, though not necessarily through miraculous events like burning bushes. Other times, we need to pray, discern, and seek wise advice, and even then we may still feel uncertain about how to proceed.
The task that God entrusted to Moses was daunting, and Moses was well aware of the magnitude of it. In a relatable moment, Moses tried to make excuses, stating why he wasn't suitable for the task. However, God reassured Moses that He would be by his side, emphasizing that Moses wouldn't be on his own. In the same way, believers in Jesus have the Holy Spirit with them (Matthew 28:20). Throughout the chapter, we witness God laying a theological foundation, revealing His love for the Israelites and His unwavering commitment to them.
At one point, God declares to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I AM has sent me to you.’” God's response to Moses' self-doubt highlights that it's not about Moses but about who God is – the eternal and unchanging I AM. Moses may have felt inadequate for the task, like any mortal would, but it was the I AM who was sending him, supporting him, and delivering His people once more.
