READ EXODUS 4

GO DEEPER

One of the most influential figures in history did not aspire to be in a leadership position. Moses objected to God's calling on him multiple times. He raised his first two concerns in chapter 3, stating that he is a shepherd and not the right person to confront Pharaoh, and that he is unsure of God's name or how to address the deity who sent him. Now, in chapter 4, Moses points out his lack of eloquence to God, as if God were unaware of his shortcomings. Moses is asking the same questions that come to our minds, and it's understandable why he hesitates. He doubts his abilities and talents required for the task that God is assigning him. In verse 1, he vocalizes the two common words we often ask God: 'what if'?

These two words can shake our faith. What if you do not come through for me, God? What if obedience to You demands a sacrifice that I am not willing to make? What if they reject, rebuke, or ridicule me? What if...? We are left with a sack full of unanswered questions and remain stagnant in taking steps of faith, missing out on the purpose God has planned for us and equipped us for.

Moses was not chosen for his charm or eloquence; he was picked because God deemed him fit to serve. He was not selected for his speaking abilities; rather, it was God's goodness and preference for using ordinary and unremarkable individuals to proclaim His glory and further His Kingdom. Moses' limitations did not surprise God, just as ours do not surprise or hinder Him.

Similar to Moses, God has prepared a task for us. Will we trust and believe that He will equip us for this task as well? He will not abandon us or desert us. He accompanies us wherever we go. Let's stop making excuses and dive into the work. The opportunities are abundant.
