READ EXODUS 14

GO DEEPER

The crossing of the Red Sea is a significant story from the Old Testament found in the Bible. It is not only recounted in Exodus when it happens but also referenced in various other books of the Bible, such as Isaiah, Psalms, Joshua, 1 Corinthians, Acts, Nehemiah, and Judges. The Bible prominently features this narrative, highlighting its significant role in the Israelites' history. It demonstrates the might of God; precisely when they felt defeated, with their enemies closing in and nowhere to turn—God paved a way for them. This tale stands as a constant reminder to the Israelites that God will always provide for and protect them from adversaries, even in the darkest of times.

God recognized that the recently liberated people, who were in despair and feeling abandoned, needed reassurance. Ten devastating plagues had freed them from nearly four centuries of enslavement. They were journeying to a land they had never seen, putting their faith in Moses, who was not raised among them and did not fully understand their circumstances. They required a push to move forward with faith. Therefore, God presented them with a remarkable event to showcase His power to the Israelites and to strengthen their belief in their leader, Moses. The event was a declaration of His identity and capabilities, so they could draw upon this account in times of need for posterity.

What is your divine intervention moment, like the crossing of the Red Sea? When have you witnessed God performing the unimaginable in your life? The Bible repeatedly reminds the Israelites to recall this story because they frequently overlooked it and began to doubt God's faithfulness. When you find yourself forgetting the power and benevolence of God in your life, where do you seek solace? In challenging circumstances, it is easy to entertain and nurture doubts, a pattern often observed in the recounting of the Israelites in the Old Testament. What if, instead, we bolstered our faith by reminiscing about God's faithfulness, provisions, and deliverance? Reflecting on the ways in which God has been present for us will offer the necessary perspective to advance in faith alongside Him.
