READ EXODUS 26
GO DEEPER
In Exodus 26, we find God’s precise instructions on constructing the Tabernacle. The text emphasizes the specific dimensions and materials to be used, as well as where each component should be placed within the Tabernacle.
Verses 31-33 describe the creation of an interior curtain that divided the Holy Place from the Most Holy Place, where the covenant law was stored in the ark. This curtain restricted access to the Most Holy Place, allowing only the high priest to enter on the Day of Atonement (refer to Leviticus 16).
The purpose of this curtain was to symbolize the separation between a sinful people and a holy God.
This same curtain is significant throughout the Bible, notably in Matthew 27:50-51. When Jesus died, the temple curtain was torn from top to bottom, symbolizing our access to the Most Holy Place through Christ's sacrifice. Through Jesus' finished work, we can now approach God, not by our efforts or merits. Hebrews 9:12 underscores this, highlighting that Jesus entered the Most Holy Place once for all, securing our eternal redemption through his blood. Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by His own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.
While we may sometimes overlook the intricate details in the Old Testament, Exodus 26 reveals a profound aspect of God's deliberate design. Every detail is significant, underscoring the omniscience of a God who cares about even the smallest particulars, such as the details of the Tabernacle's construction and the number of hairs on our heads (Matthew 10:30).
