READ EXODUS 29

GO DEEPER

Why does God require the priests to undergo such elaborate consecration rituals? The instructions in this chapter may appear excessive, but can't God simply ask them to make a few promises like "I pledge to love God" and "I pledge to be a righteous priest"? Instead, God instructs them to offer animal sacrifices and apply blood to their ears and big toes. What is the significance of this? The reason is to emphasize the importance of not underestimating God. We should always approach God with utmost respect and sincerity, avoiding the mistake of being too casual in our relationship with Him.

How did these priests connect with God after completing all the rituals outlined in Exodus 29? After facing death and challenges, they must have felt grateful to be with God! The priests probably gained a more profound realization of the significance and might of their God. He is not just available to them, but rather a sacred being who longs for His followers to live virtuous lives.

How should we approach God in present times? Just like we are able to come before His presence because we have been purified by blood. Hebrews 10:19-23 articulates this concept beautifully: "Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus,  By a new and living way, which He hath consecrated [opened] for us, through the veil, that is to say, His flesh; And having an high priest over the house of God; Let us draw near with a true [sincere] heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for He is faithful that promised;)" It is important to take our relationship with God seriously today, as He sacrificed Himself so that we could have direct access to Him.
