READ JOSHUA 24
GO DEEPER
In this passage, we are presented with two essential qualities of the Christian faith: remembrance and determination. Joshua commences by recounting God's faithfulness to the Israelites, highlighting how God rescued them from Egypt, vanquished their foes, and bestowed upon them a new homeland. This serves as a reminder of God's benevolence towards His people. However, alongside remembrance, there is an imperative for action. Joshua expresses concern that the Israelites may be taking God for granted, viewing Him merely as a magic genie who will perform miracles without accountability. But God will not tolerate disrespect; He will not continue to be their deity if they stray towards other gods. Consequently, Joshua urges the people to make a definitive choice: will they remain loyal to God or not?
The same principle should be applied in our daily lives. One of the most effective ways to reignite our love for Jesus today is by reflecting on His past actions on our behalf. When we remember Jesus' faithfulness throughout His life and the goodness He has shown us in our own lives, we are motivated to have faith in Him in the present. This practice, exemplified by Joshua guiding the Israelites, is one that we should engage in regularly. How often do you set aside time to document all the ways in which God has guided you through challenges? Instead of worrying about the future, perhaps you should focus on recalling His past interventions. By recognizing His consistent faithfulness in the past, you will develop a stronger trust in His faithfulness to come. Take a moment today to recollect all the ways in which God has blessed you. He has been actively involved in your life long before you were even born. However, His involvement necessitates a responsive action on your part. He eagerly desires for you to reciprocate His love. Decide today to allow His faithfulness towards you to inspire you to live faithfully for Him.
