READ JOSHUA 12
GO DEEPER
This chapter may not be as captivating to read as it would have been to witness firsthand. It recounts the defeats of various kings by the armies led by Moses and Joshua. While these kings may now only be names on a page, each of them symbolizes a victory that God secured for the people of Israel. In each of these conflicts, the Israelites were up against rulers who held dominion over the land and cities. These formidable armies appeared to be a disadvantage for the Israelites. Nevertheless, God triumphed on their behalf in every battle. This serves as a poignant reminder of the depiction of God as described by Daniel in Daniel 2:20-21, " . . . Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever: for wisdom and might are His: and He changeth the times and the seasons: He removeth kings, and setteth up kings: He giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding."
Though not all specifics about these kings are known, we understand the implications of being in such a position. These rulers likely exuded confidence, arrogance, and a sense of security in their authority. They were firmly entrenched in their positions and deemed untouchable, except by a higher power like God.
This chapter serves as a powerful message that God can transform your life in an instant. The sins that have gripped your heart for years can be eradicated, and the broken relationships can be healed. God is not intimidated by kings or even by the challenges you are facing today. The story of Joshua 12 was a reminder to the Israelites that what God has accomplished in the past, He can do again. Perhaps today, you should create a list of the obstacles that God has overcome in your life. Remembering what God has saved you from should give you faith that He can help you again.
