GO DEEPER

In this chapter, Micah is depicted as making an idol, which goes against the second commandment. He was not only making an image of God to worship, but also creating his own interpretation of God. Micah forgot that he was made in God's image, rather than the other way around. God is unchanging and not shaped by our perceptions. When we create our own ideas of God, it confines Him to human understanding instead of recognizing His eternal nature. In Exodus, God refers to Himself as "I am that I am" to convey that there is no single description or word that can encompass His entirety.

Frequently, we tend to create our own perception of God. Our current situation often shapes our perception. Moreover, we often define God by what He is not. We may portray Him as lacking in goodness, knowledge, or grace. We allow our life circumstances to dictate our understanding of God. In doing so, we overlook God's true nature. He is holy, just, merciful, trustworthy, generous, and much more. He surpasses any depiction we try to assign to Him.

Recognizing the immense greatness of God beyond our perceptions will profoundly impact us. When we grasp the truth that God is precisely who He proclaims to be, and not merely who we define Him as, it completely transforms our lives and connection with Him. We are empowered to approach Him with bold requests, acknowledging His unfailing support, and understanding that our sins do not surpass His forgiveness. It is crucial to continually reflect on God's nature and avoid confining Him to our limited understanding. We serve a God capable of miracles, and diminishing His power is disrespectful.

He is the sole savior who rescues us from our sins, regardless of their scale. God took care of the consequences of sin. This act of salvation was not only for Micah and the Israelites, who constantly struggled to follow the right path, but for all of humanity. The sacrifice made on the cross is a timeless symbol that covers all our wrongdoings, whether it be engaging in gossip, telling harmless lies, battling with pornography addiction, or any other personal struggle. Throughout it all, God remains true to His identity and unwavering in His nature. His essence remains constant and unchanging.
